Sometimes we don’t hear opportunities knocking. The call to exciting and eventful things is drowned out in the monotonous dullness of everyday life.
And other times when we do hear them knock, we stop and think if we should even bother answering. We feel well settled where we are and upsetting that is too much of an inconvenience.
It is easy to continue in the same boring job.
It is easy to continue watching sitcoms late into the night instead of sleeping early and making time for gym.
It is also easy to not worry about what you are eating and letting your tastebuds make the decisions.
It is easy now, but painful later. You realise the pain when you look back at all those ‘wasted’ years of not taking any action. Of not taking the time to think about where you are heading.
Some of us might end up so far down the ‘default’ path that we need a major setback to start changing things. Getting fired from your job, the doctor advising you to stop taking sugar and to start exercising, or meeting your best friend who earlier used to be like you, is now flaunting a six pack. You feel betrayed. By your employer, by your body, by your best friend. You blame everyone but deep down you know you let time slip without taking any action.
What To Do Now?
Stop. And change things. Take up challenges, targets and projects. Put yourself out there and take chances. If nothing else, you would atleast have a good story to tell. 🙂
Ending this with words of wisdom from the most iconic and inspiring movie character. He might just stir you into fighting your way back into living a life of purpose:
“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!” ~Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone)
