Read Part 1 about What is making you Fat here. Here, we continue where we left off in part 1 and also discuss what we can do for fat loss
*** Its all in the mind ***
Our mind and body have an amazing connection. Use it! Here’s how:
Taste, really taste what you eat
Start enjoying your food – savour each bite and be mindful of how ‘full’ you feel. Never ever eat till you are bursting from your trousers full. Let go of the last piece of bread, cereal if your hunger has calmed down.
It goes without saying that you do not eat in front of the telly or while reading a book! This is because you enter the zone of mindless munching – as you don’t realise how much you have had or if you are still hungry after.
Practice happy thoughts
This is the most critical of all. Do not eat if you are tired, angry, worried and also refuse to talk about unpleasant subjects at meal time. Else you will be calling the stress hormones into play and they suppress the digestive system causing gas, bloating, and other unflattering side effects.
Practice calming thoughts, keep an internal dialogue with yourself if negative emotions arise shut them out. Stop listening to them, develop a positive outlook on life.
This will not only assist you in weight management but also deal with any other stress related symptoms of frequent head aches, body pain, acidity, acne, depression, high blood pressure, etc.
If you have never exercised before or have been inactive over the last 6 months, start doing 10 minutes of exercise everyday.
Start going for early morning walks, do a bit of body weight training and slowly gear up for the more intense workouts. As you start becoming comfortable in doing a certain routine, increase your pace – not the time, increase intensity – it will give you better results.
All other reasons for weight gain
.. your genes, hormonal imbalance, medicines, etc. If you feel let down by factors outside of your control then it is time to stop feeling sorry for yourself. Start taking care of yourself. Eat right, get the exercise. Your body has miraculous powers.
Do not think of your body as a handicap. Give it the right fuel, move around and believe that things will get better. If you give up on your body, it will give up on you. It is not time yet. It is time to be healthy. It is time to heal.
You will not lose pounds immediately, but the weight will come off, slowly and surely. It will come off in layers. It took years for your body to reach this weight, give it a few months to rid of it. Any quick fixes – fad diets, pills, etc will do more harm than good and you will gain back all you lose.
All the best!! 🙂
